Harlem Children’s Zone

A-List has developed a customized SAT program for the Harlem Children’s Zone (HCZ), a community-based non-profit agency focused on educational social service in Central Harlem. The organization was recently recognized by President Barack Obama for its efforts and his administration proposed that $10 million of the 2010 national budget be used to model similar programs across the nation.

The ten-week SAT course aims to provide around 75 students at the Harlem Children’s Zone with the knowledge and skills to master the SAT. Throughout the program, expert instructors employ A-List’s proven, proprietary methodologies and materials such as the A-List Book of Knowledge and Vocab Videos, the video-based system for learning vocabulary. Vocab Videos features humorous short videos that parody popular television shows enabling students to learn and remember the meanings of 500 high value SAT-level vocabulary words. HCZ students will be participating in a special Vocab Videos Challenge curriculum that invites them to create their own videos that must demonstrate a thorough understanding of certain frequently tested SAT words. As part of the program students will develop their creative writing, performing arts, and video editing skills and present their work to a panel of judges. A-List staff members are available during regular weekday workshops to answer questions, review homework and provide personalized attention.
