MOVE Educational Program Development
About the Organization:
MOVE was founded by individuals who deeply wanted to provide support for disadvantaged youth in high school. The program focuses on two critical components needed to get students prepared for college: a mentorship component and an academic component. Within the first component students are paired with a mentor who was specially matched to them. Together the mentor and the student engage in various activities including team-building exercises, cultural events and personal exploration workshops. Mentors provide encouragement and guidance which is otherwise absent from most of these student's lives. The second component focuses on preparing students for advanced high school coursework and standardized college entrance exams.
About A-List's Program at MOVE:
A-List partnered with MOVE to provide academic support services including Reading & Writing Core Skills, Regents Exam Prep and SAT Prep as well as supply managerial support and various administrative services to optimize the academic experience of MOVE students. A-List assumed the following various administrative tasks and responsibilities:
- Generate program and student progress reports
- Provide program updates to MOVE management staff
- Implement initial student evaluations to determine strengths and weaknesses; make recommendations on coursework and/or additional academic support
- Develop student assessment reports to be distributed to mentors and MOVE staff
- Conduct mentor professional development workshops highlighting crucial milestones towards high school completion and college admission (applications, FAFSA – Financial aid, course selection, identification of major and potential college)
- Communicate student progress reports to mentors in order to reinforce academic message and timelines/milestones
- Coordinate A-List participation in MOVE events and with MLK volunteer staff
