Specific Summer Programmes
Many US Institutions offer great summer programmes, some specifically geared toward international students. For instance, Stanford offers a summer session specifically for visiting international students. The camp runs for both 8 weeks and 9 weeks from the 24th June – 20th August, and 24th June – 26th August, respectfully. See more details about this camp here. Please note that the deadline to register is the 25th of April.
Another summer program Stanford runs for students is the Summer Session for High School students where students will partake in college courses that apply towards college credit! See more details here. Harvard also runs a pre-college summer camp for high school students (aged 15 to 18). Be sure to check out their website here for more details!
It is a good idea for you to check out the websites of the universities you want to attend to see if they have any summer programs you can take part in. Being in one of these programmes will help make your application stronger as well as give you an idea of what campus life will be like in the states!
CV Development is extremely important when applying for US Universities. Universities want to see that you have been active outside of the classroom as well as in it. Many American high school students (GCSE, A-level and IB) will get involved in student government, political parties, sports, school newspapers, and a variety of other extracurriculars. Therefore it is important to start as soon as possible so you can put it on your college application! It’s more important to get involved in something that you are passionate about, than doing multiple activities half-heartedly. Colleges will be able to see whether you are interested in your extracurricular or whether you are just trying to fill up space. With that said, it is a good idea to have a couple or few extracurriculars that you feel strongly about and can participate in on a regular basis.
